A man is in hospital with gunshot wounds after a police officer allegedly fired their gun during a stolen vehicle stop in Scarborough Thursday night.Â
Ontario’s police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), told the Star they were en route to the scene around 9 p.m. to investigate.
York Regional Police said officers followed a stolen vehicle from Kennedy Road and Clayton Drive in Markham into Toronto shortly after 7 p.m.Â

Officers worked to box the car in before it collided with police cruisers, according to the SIU. The vehicle then stopped around Kennedy Road and Bonis Avenue in Scarborough where one officer shot at the man, 30, who was the only person inside the car, the watchdog added in a press release.
According to police, first aid was immediately administered to the man. He was then sent to hospital with serious injuries, the unit said.
The SIU have assigned six of their investigators to the case as well as a collision reconstructionist. They are asking anybody with information on the case to contact them through their website.
