Sum 41

BIPPop-punk fans be warned: these will likely be your last opportunities to see Sum 41 live. The pride of Ajax, Ont., is set to conclude a gigantic world tour with two shows at Scotiabank Arena. The Tour of the Setting Sum comes on the heels of the band’s eighth and final studio album, “Heaven :x: Hell,” which arrived last March.

Fortunately, the thrash metal titans have extended the tour, adding two spring dates in Toronto, with support from Pantera and Suicidal Tendencies on April 24, and Limp Bizkit and Ice Nine Kills on April 26. It’s what Metallica is calling a No Repeat Weekend, with each night featuring an entirely different set list from the headliner.

The two concerts take place just over a year since Kendrick Lamar dropped his chart-topping diss track, ”Not Like Us,” the meteoric success of which has led to a resurgence in the Compton MC’s popularity, earning him a headlining spot at February’s Super Bowl halftime show.

On tour in support of their 10th studio album, “Moon,” Chris Martin and company will play for upwards of 200,000 fans at the upcoming Rogers Stadium this July for not one, not two, not three — but four shows.

Is nu metal enjoying a renaissance? It seems possible, given the extraordinary demand for tickets following the announcement that System of a Down was hitting the road for a trio of North American stadium shows next summer. Due to overwhelming demand, the band added extra dates almost immediately — they’ll perform twice at Rogers Stadium in September alongside Deftones, with support from Polyphia and Wisp. The shows will mark the first time SOAD plays Toronto in over a decade.
